It’s the New Year and typically we think about resolutions: quit smoking,
lose weight, start exercising are some common goals that often fail before
the year begins. For a moment let’s think in a different paradigm. During
this darkest time of year let me shed some light on an area that anyone can
work on to improve without fail. I’d like to talk about chakras (pronounced
shahkras). The word chakra is a Sanskrit word that means “wheel of light.”
There are seven major energy centers (chakras) in the body. They are similar
to wheels in that they are spinning vortexes of energy. They are focal centers
of life force relating to physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual energies
through which we receive, transmit, and process life energies.
Chakras
are nonanatomical in nature, yet they exist in the layer of energy closest
to your physical body. When something happens to impede the flow of our life
energy, the chakras slow down activity, and energy becomes sluggish and even
stagnant. If temporary, the energy resumes its natural flow. But if this situation
continues for some time, then the chakras need stimulation to become active
again. Our health and well-being depend on active chakras.
The
seven major chakras are: root, navel, solar plexus, heart, throat, brow, and
crown. They are the network through which body, mind and spirit interact as
one holistic system. Each one has a corresponding relationship to one of the
various glands of the body’s endocrine system. They act as conductors
filtering energy. It is this vortex of moving energy which then stimulates
the various endocrine organs to secrete their hormones into the bloodstream.
The
chakra/organ connection is as follows: root chakra-adrenal cortex; sacral
chakra-ovaries/testes; solar plexus chakra-pancreas; heart chakra-thymus;
throat chakra-thyroid; brow chakra-pituitary; crown chakra-pineal gland.
There
are several ways to activate and clear your chakras: through meditation, the
practice of yoga, prayer or visualization, music therapy, light therapy and
crystal therapy. For a very thorough resource of this subject and yet user
friendly, consider The Book of Chakras by Ambika Wauters.
In
our office we can activate the chakra clearing through NET (Neuro-Emotional
Technique). So think about a “wheel” alignment here at the beginning
of the year for a deeper sense of balance in your body.
